This collection of blueprints are of the Placer Hotel located in Helena, Montana. The hotel was built through the Hotel Investment Company. The head architect on this project was G.H. Carsley with Cass Gilbert as the supervising architect. All blueprints are dated 1912. (Manuscript Collection 10).

Cass Gilbert was born on November 24, 1859, in Zanesville, Ohio, the son of General and Mrs. Samuel Augustus Gilbert. He received his education at MacAlester College, St. Paul, Minnesota and attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge after working in a St. Paul architect's office. The Placer Hotel was built in 1912 and designed by architects Cass Gilbert and G.H. Carsley. The Placer Hotel immediately became competition for the Montana Club, a popular meeting place of Helena's elite. At this time, women were not allowed to become members of the Montana Club, which made the Placer Hotel an appealing alternative for families.
